Let's Revisit MESHUGGAH's Insane Video For "Rational Gaze" Featuring Only JENS KIDMAN In Some Wigs

It's only a little insane.

"Rational Gaze" from Meshuggah's Nothing album certainly has an official music video… but that's not the one we're revisiting. Instead, we're watching the one titled "Mr. Kidman Delirium Version" filmed entirely by Meshuggah vocalist Jens Kidman on a camcorder.

The video only features Kidman in some wigs imitating his bandmates and pretty much losing his mind, making for some perfectly insane visuals for a perfectly insane Meshuggah song.

Nothing was released in 2002, and was re-released in 2006 with new rhythm guitar tracks and revised drums using virtual drum software. It's worth noting that the 2006 release also had some differences in its actual material – "Nebulous" had its tempo taken down and "Obsidian" removed its fade-out and nearly doubled in length. Meshuggah also landed a spot on Ozzfest 2002 right as they were wrapping up Nothing alongside then-contemporaries like System Of A Down and Mushroomhead.

As far as modern Meshuggah, they're celebrating 15 years everyone trying to play "Bleed" and failing with an anniversary version of ObZen. The classic 2008 album will be remastered and "sonically updated" for its March 31 release on digital and physical platforms. Pre-orders are available here.
