Is This METALLICA Show From 1986 The Fastest The Band Ever Played?

How does one even downpick this fast.

Metallica played the Maple Leaf Gardens in Toronto on December 9, 1986 and it might've been their fastest show ever. I mean seriously, this thing is just furious. For reference, the band shaves a solid 40-ish seconds off their usually eight-plus minute "Master Of Puppets". If you watch closely, you can even see Hetfield's right hand smoking as it reaches terminal velocity!

This show is also about three months after the death of Cliff Burton, and one of Metallica's first shows with Jason Newsted. So mentally I'm sure this was a rough one for the group.

The setlist for the '86 shredfest is:

  1. "Battery"
  2. "Master Of Puppets"
  3. "For Whom the Bell Tolls"
  4. "Welcome Home (Sanitarium)"
  5. "Ride The Lightning"
  6. "Bass Solo"
  7. "Whiplash"
  8. "The Thing That Should Not Be"
  9. "Fade to Black"
  10. "Seek & Destroy"
  11. "Creeping Death"
  12. "The Four Horsemen"
  13. "Guitar Solo"
  14. "Am I Evil?"
  15. "Damage Inc."
  16. "Fight Fire With Fire"
  17. "Blitzkrieg"
