The Josh Meader Trio is now streaming their live-in-studio performance of "Eclipse" and the performance is nothing short of jaw dropping. The interplay between Meader and keyboardist Matt Thomson is insane, while drummer Alex Hirlian holds the whole thing down without looking like he's even considering breaking a sweat. But there's just something about this performance that feels very Animals As Leaders-ish… and it's very cool.
"Eclipse" has a certain heaviness and technical prowess about it that marries what jazzy metal guys like Animals As Leaders and Plini (or Intervals, or David Maxim Micic, etc.) are doing, but in a much more tradition jazz context. Meader is also clearly aware of (maybe even influenced by) Animals As Leaders guitarist Tosin Abasi, considering he entered Abasi's Neural Contest in 2020 and plays one of the Abasi Concepts guitars.
Anyway, what I'm getting at here is this – a tour featuring the Josh Meader Trio and any of the aforementioned groups would probably go over pretty well.
