The band comments on "Northern Skin"

"You know that feeling when you run cold hands under hot water and the sharp contrast in temperature burns your skin at first before soothing it? That’s sorta the analogy I use in this song to describe the bittersweet realization of what true appreciation and affection feels like after a long period of rejection or neglect. Even though it’s a positive thing, it can be unfamiliar and difficult to accept at first, and it may take time and effort to feel comfortable and healthy again in a loving relationship.”
