When we initially covered The Grindmother, I figured it was just going to become goofy one-off that got lost in the annals of this site's history. Then we started hearing singles off the now-band's full length album, and they were fucking good. Not even "oh, for a 67-year old woman this is good"-type of good. No, this shit is awesome.
Now The Grindmother is back with a cover of Sepultura's "Slave New World" from its 1993 album Chaos A.D. Here's what she had to say of the cover in a conversation with Decibel.
“Admittedly, I don’t know a lot of heavy music, but when I heard this song I fell in love with it. So when Rain [guitar] and Tyson [Apex, drums] proposed we record our own version of it, I was all for it and immediately learned it off by heart. They are both huge fans of classic Sepultura and I would now consider myself a fan as well. Although they tell me it’s not grindcore, I can certainly hear the influence in many of our own songs.”
Seriously, I think we all need to strive to be this awesome when we're older.
