We've heard the joke before: we've been waiting almost 10,000 Days for this new Tool album.
The band have been working on new material for a few years now, and last summer they said they hoped to have it out this year, leading to hope that we may finally hear something. But that isn't happening, and part of the reason is a crazy multi-million dollar lawsuit the band is currently embroiled in.
But we Tool fans are patient. Today, guitarist Adam Jones posted the below photo with the hashtag #SmokeOnTheHorizon:
Smoke on the horizon hints of course that the band is almost at their destination, which would be the new record.
But here's why I'm really excited. Maynard is in the photo. The band has reached the point in the production cycle where Maynard is ready to contribute vocals. Maynard has said previously that he doesn't really enter the album making process until the rest of the band is basically done writing all the new music. So if Maynard is there, that means they're pretty close to done with the music and Maynard just needs to write some lyrics and slap 'em on the songs.
So while #TOOL2014 is not happening, we hold out hope for #TOOL2015.
