Well if you weren't excited for the new Iron Maiden double album, The Book of Souls when it was announced a few weeks ago, perhaps this quote from Steve Harris about the 18-minute track “Empire of the Clouds,” will really pump you up:
“I think it’s a masterpiece, actually – I think I can say that because I didn’t write it! It sounds like Maiden but it’s totally different from what we’ve done before.
“Eighteen minutes sounds like a long time, but it’s actually such a journey that… well, it’s best just to leave people to listen to it and see what they think. But it’s very interesting. It’s certainly not boring.”
Okay, I'm on board. What's interesting is that while this is the longest track on the double album, there are two another tracks over ten minutes in length… " The Red And The Black," which Harris did write, and the title track, clocking in at 10:17, which Harris co-wrote. Surely, he wouldn't call his own music a masterpiece, but it must be pretty good in its own right!
Anyway, I am beyond excited for this album now. But we'll have to wait until September 4th!
