One year out from Machine Head's latest and seemingly very much disliked album Catharsis, the band is back in the studio laying down "new heaviness." Though who even constitutes "the band" anymore? Guitarist Phil Demmel and drummer Dave McClain have both departed, and Demmel insists that Machine Head is just frontman and guitarist Robb Flynn's solo project at this point. So sure, Flynn and bassist Jared MacEachern are in the studio, but it's not clear who's filling out the rest of the band.
It'll also be interesting to see where Machine Head decides to go after the terminally disjointed Catharsis. Though maybe Machine Head is just cranking out a new song or two to make it known they're not giving up and they're going back to being a heavy band again?
