THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From IGGY POP, NORTH, BORIS WITH MERZBOW and More Out Today – 3/18

This edition includes a whole lot of sludge, a not-so-metal legend, technicality, and more! To the metals…

The Body – No One Deserves Happiness 41cewrrjWKL

Genre: Sludge
Origin: Portland, Oregon
Label: Thrill Jockey

Buy now on Amazon.com

God damn, these guys are prolific. They dropped three collaboration albums and an EP last year, and this year they already have another collaboration record in the pipeline AND THIS. Their latest full length record is everything you'd want from Rhode Island-turned-Portland's disconcerting sludge collective. Heavy ass riffs, pummeling drums and shrieking vocals of someone that is likely dying.

Boris with Merzbow – Gensho 91GpYOS5ZjL._SL1500_

Genre: Experimental
Origin: Tokyo, Japan
Label: Relapse

Buy now on Amazon.com

Keeping things slow and weird are the also prolific Boris as they collaborate once again with noise musician Merzbow. Unsurprisingly, the record winds up being a fuzzy and slow. It is a rather interesting set of tracks. Disc one is comprised of re-recordings of some classic Boris tracks and a My Bloody Valentine cover, and disc two is Merzbow nearly filling the entire run-time of a compact disc with new material. The entire thing clocks in and well over two hours of chaos.

North – Light The Way 91wR8rJhX3L._SL1500_

Genre: Sludge
Origin: Tucson/Phoenix, Arizona
Label: Prosthetic

Buy now on Amazon.com

If you don't know North by now and you're into sludge and post-metal, then let me introduce you to one of your new favorite bands. They trio create some of the most intense and oddly beautiful heavy music I've ever heard. A great live band also. They're opening for Intronaut and Scale The Summit around when this drops and you need to get to these shows early.

Iggy Pop – Post Pop DepressionA1adsrYoMlL._SL1500_

Genre: Art Rock
Origin: Muskegon, Michigan
Label: Loma Vista

Buy now on Amazon.com

Not technically metal in anyway really. However, Josh Homme of Queens of the Stone Age, Dean Fertita of QotSA/The Dead Weather, and Matt Helders of Arctic Monkeys back Pop to make what essentially sounds like a cool Queens of the Stone Age record if Homme did backing vocals instead. A must have for your Homme completists.

Save Us From The Archon – L'Eclisse 12705782_817471541691487_3515419670083582438_n

Genre: Progressive
Origin: Southwestern Pennsylvania
Label: Tragic Hero

Buy now on Amazon.com

Too much slow shit and Iggy Pop for you this week? Well, here you go kid. Here's some shredy, progressive instrumental madness for you. Somewhere between Polyphia finesse and Protest The Hero technicality, you have Save Us From The Archon.

Wormed – Krighsu

Genre:514XnRcywPL Technical death metal
Origin: Madrid, Spain
Label: Season Of Mist

Buy now on Amazon.com

First off, I thought the whole moving release days to Fridays eliminated the international/North American release day differences. This technically drops for us on 3/25, but we all have the internet, so when it drops today, it's basically out world-wide. Anyway, this brutal death metal collective just lives to fuck your shit up. Wormed's Krighsu is no-frills technical assault. So get warmed up before this one.
