This week's new heavy metal releases include a grim off-shoot of a post-rock band, intense industrial, and more! To the metals…

Extreme – Six

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From GODFLESH, SCAR SYMMETRY & More Out Today 6/9

Genre: Hard rock
Origin: Boston Massachusetts
Label: earMusic

Buy now on Amazon

It's been fifteen years since Gary Cherone, Nuno Bettencourt, and pals have shown us that they are more than "More Than Words." It's well known that Nuno is a guitar god, but holy shit. The straight ahead hard rock foundation may not do it for everyone, but the shredding is top notch throughout.

Geld – Currency // Castration

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From GODFLESH, SCAR SYMMETRY & More Out Today 6/9

Genre: Hardcore
Origin: Melbourne, Australia
Label: Relapse

Buy now on Bandcamp

Next up we have a real noisy one from Australia. This one is hardcore first, but there's a subtle bed of almost psychedelic atmosphere beneath. The result is a beatdown with an otherworldly aura.

Godflesh – Purge

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From GODFLESH, SCAR SYMMETRY & More Out Today 6/9

Genre: Industrial
Origin: Birmingham, England
Label: Avalanche

Buy now on Bandcamp

After six years Godflesh are back to provide sonic nightmare fuel. It's impressive how much this album does while remaining minimal in song structure and composition. If you are a fan of their record Pure, this will likely be an intriguing listen as it calls back to that record.

Johnny The Boy – You

Genre: Black metal/sludge
Origin: UK/Sweden
Label: Season Of Mist

Buy now on Bandcamp

Heavy and dark is what you're getting with You. This Crippled Black Phoenix off-shoot is mixing the CBP experimentalism with black metal, sludge, and post-metal. The result is like the evil twin of the core band.

Legion Of The Damned – The Poison Chalice

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From GODFLESH, SCAR SYMMETRY & More Out Today 6/9

Genre: Blackened thrash
Origin: Helden, Netherlands
Label: Napalm

Buy now on Bandcamp

Now this is just rad. Sinister licks, driving rhythms, and evil vocals. Circle pits are likely to summon demons in then when this one speeds up. The hellish landscape that emerges will be worth it.

Scar Symmetry – The Singularity (Phase II – Xenotaph)

THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From GODFLESH, SCAR SYMMETRY & More Out Today 6/9

Genre: Melodic death metal
Origin: Avesta, Sweden
Label: Nuclear Blast

Buy now on Amazon

It's been way too long since these sci-fi infused melodic death metalers have brought the epic stuff. Phase II picks up where its 2014 counterpart left off and should please fans of material since Dark Matter Dimensions. Also, nine years since Phase I? Who do they think they are George RR Martin? Jordan has a full review here.
