Genre: Occult rock
Origin: Austin, Texas

Of course these masters of spooky rock would drop an album on Friday the 13th. I remember being unable to avoid this band about four years ago when Deathlike dropped, and the band hasn't seemed to change all that much since, but it's just as good as ever. So, if you like your Satanic worship jams a bit more mellow, get on 33.

On their fourteenth album, Enslaved prove that they can still bring it. E, in some ways, picks up where In Times left off, but completely stands on it's own with enough fresh ideas to differentiate the two records. The rhythms alone on "Storm Son" where a welcomed change. This is also the first record with new clean vocalists/keyboard player Håkon Vinje, and the man has a great voice.

Too much melodic shit for you so far this week? Well, here you go. Their first album of original material in four years is a fucking assault. My favorite thing about this record is that in the twelve songs on the standard edition it, seven (and one could argue nine) of them reference death in some way. Metal.

Did you guys know that the wrestler Chris Jericho band's has seven albums? That's insane right? I even talked about the sixth album in 2014 and that fact didn't click then. Here's their seventh album of grooving heavy metal that'll make you want to hit a neighbor with a chair.

First off, I'm well aware that Robert Plant hasn't been heavy in like 25-30 years, but he's the one howling on Led Zeppelin tracks, so he gets a pass forever and you get to hear about it. This record is still in the folksy realm that he's grown comfortable in, and good for him. You can hear the guy that screamed "It's been a long time since I rock and rolled" in there, but at age sixty-nine, this feels right.

This record is pretty interesting. I'm sure long time fans hate the digital elements in their long-running black metal band, but it's like chocolate and peanut butter to me here.  This is epic, grim, and pretty varied, which is always nice.

Let's end this week with some techy melodic death metal shall we? On their first album in seven years, and first since their reunion, Through The Eyes Of The Dead picked the perfect time to veer it's ugly head. There's a strong tech scene happening and I can hear a lot of TtEotD (or however they abbreviate) in the younger bands out now, and these guys are showing them how it's done here. A mighty return.
