THE WEEKLY INJECTION: New Releases From CYNIC, JUNIUS, and More Out Today – 2/18

Following a slow week, we're being hit with a near over abundance of solid records. In this edition we have tech-death legends, a Human Centipede reference, fantastic atmosphere and lots more! To the metals…

Adrenaline Mob – Men Of Honor 81QfK5pwNVL._SL1500_

Genre: Groove Metal
Origin: New York, New York
Label: Century Media

Buy now on Amazon.com

I find this to be a very odd band for Mike Portnoy to have been a member of. He is no longer of course, but I can't imagine why he would be in the first place. From what I've heard, they're a rather straight forward groove metal band that really reminds me of post-Dave Williams Drowning Pool.

Ass To Mouth – Degenerate

a1375242471_10

Genre: Death Metal
Origin: Wrocław, Porland
Label: Selfmadegod

Buy now on Bandcamp.com

If a band called "Ass To Mouth" did anything but brutal death metal with a hint of grindcore, it would be a crime. The songs are short and probably intended to be offensive. It may not be your cup of tea, but as we learned in Clerks 2, "Sometimes, in the heat of the moment, it's forgivable to go Ass to Mouth."

Benighted – Carnivore Sublime 0214-Benighted-Carnivore-Sublime-300x300

Genre: Brutal Death Metal
Origin: Saint-Etienne, France
Label: Season Of Mist

Buy now on Amazon.com

French death metal with guttural vocals, pig sequels, samples of babies crying and a boob on the album cover to get your attention.

Cynic – Kindly Bent To Free Us Cynic-Kindly-Bent-To-Free-Us

Genre: Progressive
Origin: Miami, Florida
Label: Season Of Mist

Buy now on Amazon.com

I've already professed my love for this album here, and if you're a fan, you've already heard the whole record here. So shut up, get this one and enjoy some prog.

Flotsam and Jetsam – No Place For Disgrace: 2014 039841529029;canvasHeight=500;canvasWidth=500

Genre: Power Thrash
Origin: Phoenix, Arizona
Label: Metal Blade

Buy now on Amazon.com

Apparently fans have been wanting the band to remix their 1988 album No Place For Disgrace so instead of doing that, Flotsam and Jetsam decided to take the Anthrax route and rerecord their old songs with their current line-up and drop it. I can imagine that this will be bitter sweet for fans. Sweet in that it'll sound better, bitter in that it is going to fall flat. This sort of thing always does.

Junius – Days Of The Fallen Sun EPJunius

Genre: Atmospheric Metal
Origin: Boston, Massachusetts
Label: Prosthetic

Buy now on Amazon.com

It is a shame that this release is only an EP, but it is a mighty 25-minutes of moody atmospheric metal. Our own Greg stated, "The title of Junius' Days of the Fallen Sun sounds ominous as all hell and the artwork only furthers that feeling… and holy crap does the music live up to that expectation." I can't agree more. Read his full review here.

Lionize – Jetpack Soundtrack 71FMcEc53pL._SL1500_

Genre: Blues Rock
Origin: Silver Spring, Maryland
Label: Weathermaker

Buy now on Amazon.com

It's really no surprised that Lionize, a band that is signed to the record label run by Clutch, sounds a lot like Clutch. Think Earth Rocker with some organ thrown in, and you've got Lionize. This isn't an insult either. It takes a lot for bands to stand out in this genre, and like their label mates, they totally do.

Slough Feg – Digital Resistance SloughFeg-Digital Resistance

Genre: Progressive Stoner Metal
Origin: San Francisco, California
Label: Metal Blade

Buy now on Amazon.com

I actually hesitate to list this band as any genre. They have had a hand in quite a few genres over their near-quarter century. This latest batch of songs sticks to their recent tradition of stoner rock singalongs, and that's not a bad thing at all. I've a a full review of this on Metal Injection somewhere.

Suicide Silence – Ending Is The Beginning: The Mitch Lucker Memorial Show CD/DVD 81YZcE7uRmL._SL1500_

Genre: Deathcore
Origin: Riverside, California
Label: Century Media

Buy now on Amazon.com

A few years ago Suicide Silence's vocalist Mitch Lucker died after crashing his motorcycle while drunk. In his honor the band played a show with guest vocal performances by lads from Lamb of God, Job For a Cowboy, Machine Head, and more. This is the documentation of that night.
