Baroness's 2015 comeback album Purple was undeniably perfect, so the fact that there's new Baroness material in the works is really very exciting.
Vocalist and guitarist John Baizley tells Metal Hammer that the band is working on new songs, and that drummer Sebastian Thomson and bassist Nick Jost will be contributing to the writing process with what they've learned about old Baroness material.
"We’ve started writing a few tunes that we’re working on. The really cool thing now is that Sebastian and Nick have been in the band long enough that they understand what we do.
"Preparing for Roadburn we had to learn some really old songs and in doing so they gained an understanding of that era of our band. They’re now interested in maybe incorporating some of those elements in some way. We just want to write better songs."
Obviously Baroness is very early on in the process, so who knows when it'll come out. Though isn't it exciting that Thomson and Jost are offering a fresh perspective on the old stuff?
