Tool are always booking very interesting acts as openers for them. I remember they booked cool bands like Meshuggah, ISIS (the band) and Intronaut before those bands broke crazy big, and I always appreciated them for it.
Even their current run of arena shows has a unique opener in Killing Joke, a band that has been around forever, but always put out awesome music. For their 2020 dates, the band has announced they have recruited one-man-band Tristan Shone aka Author & Punisher.
Tristan commented on the huge opportunity, saying:
“Excited to announce that I’ll be supporting Tool on their upcoming US dates in January and February 2020. This is a huge honor that I don’t take lightly. I don’t always get to take the full arsenal of drone machines due to their weight and pain but certainly on this run, everything is in play. I love you all and I’m sorry for future back pain and inevitable hearing loss.”
