Zakk Wylde, Black Label Society
Over here, we got Zakk Wylde busting out one of his many signature Harmonic Slides during the Black Label Mass in the Toronto Chapter. While we all enjoy it, believe me, when I say many, there were many… perhaps even too many throughout the night!
Mark Morton, Lamb of God
Mark Morton shows no mercy in strangling his Jackson with a bad-ass riff right here. This was taken during Lamb of God's 6 date mini club tour back in January, before setting off on their full on world tour promoting for their new album, Resolution. With a band of their caliber, it is very rare to see them play at small clubs, and that night was certainly one to remember.
Trivium
Love them or hate them. This is a great photo of Trivium, which showcases the band under a very moody and atmospheric lighting during their set. I love shots with multiple subjects. I certainly think that they have been over looked in today’s live photography, as many photographers only seem to focus on individuals
Trevor Strnad, Black Dahlia Murder
This may seem a bit crazy, but we got Trevor Strnad commanding his legion of Black Dahlia Murder fans as he summons them on to the earth.
Erik Danielsson, Watain
Black Metal bands don't always have to be black and white. This photo of Erik Danielsson captures the mood and essence of their live show. The red lighting even adds another dimension of evilness to the shot.
Brent Smedley, Iced Earth
Finally, in case you were wondering, no, I have not forgotten about the drummers. Photographing drummers has been one of the more difficult tasks for me, due them being seated up higher and further back to the stage. That being said, this shot of Brent from Iced Earth, is one of my favorite drum shots this year. I was able to get close enough to capture his emotion and the energy of his playing.
Adam D, Killswitch Engage
(Stay tuned, for the full photo set to follow this week)
I know this was supposed to be a top 12 list, but I want to add an extra shot of Adam D from Killswitch Engage. This may not be the best shot, but it shows how you can have fun without the serious tough guy look and play music in a crushing metal band. Not only that, but this photo was taken from the "Alive or Just Breathing – 10 Year Anniversary Tour", one of the best shows to finish off 2012 for me.
