Purveyors of dark ambient metal Tribulation has won their second Grammis Award, which are the Swedish equivalent to the Grammys in the United States. In 2018, the band won the award for their album Down Below. This time around, the band has been honored with the best hard rock/heavy metal Grammis for their latest album, Where the Gloom Becomes Sound.
In a post to their Instagram account, Tribulation posted a photo of themselves with the award, commenting, "Humbled and grateful for another Grammis! Thank you all for the support! #tribulation #grammis2022"
This year, despite prevailing in the end, Tribulation had some stiff competition for the award. Also nominated were:
- The Night Flight Orchestra – Aeromantic II
- Nestor – Kids In A Ghost Town
- Lucifer – Lucifer IV
- At the Gates – The Nightmare Of Being
Tribulation got their start in Sweden in 2005. Their debut album, The Horror, was released in 2009. Four years later, they followed their debut with a second full-length studio album, The Formulas of Death, in 2013. The band’s sound evolved greatly on their third album, Children of the Night, which featured a stark departure from the death metal sound of the two prior albums and leaned heavily on traditional heavy metal, gothic and psychedelic rock, and incorporated edgy themes such as the occult and supernatural mythology.
In April, Tribulation announced they were recording a new EP, which will be their first-ever studio effort with guitarist Joseph Tholl, who replaced former member Jonathan Hultén. The EP is being recorded with Linus Björklund, who recorded Tribulation's Down Below.
Also last month, Tribulation made the bonus track “The Dhampir” available for streaming. Recorded during the sessions for Where The Gloom Becomes Sound, a portion of the 18-minute epic was first available on the deluxe version of the Where The Gloom Becomes Sound CD, while the entire song was only available through the deluxe vinyl version of the album (with "Månvisan" as the B-side). Now "The Dhampir" available in full digitally, and you can stream it below. It's an excellent song that really deserves your full focus, and one whose entirety definitely has a place in Tribulation's celebrated discography.
