Tobias Forge Didn't Expect GHOST To Become A Full-Time Job

"I did not know, when taking the first nine steps between 2006 and 2009, 2010, when the first record came out."

Ghost released their debut album Opus Eponymous in 2010 on Rise Above Records and in 2011 in North America on the same label. Since then, Ghost has gone on to win three Grammis Awards in Sweden, as well as one Grammy Awards in the United States alongside an additional two nominations. The band has been getting increasingly bigger tours, including headlining ones with insane stage production, and has both a Gold and Platinum record in Sweden (Infestissumam in 2013 and Meliora in 2015, respectively).

In a new interview with Two Doods Reviews, vocalist Tobias Forge says Ghost's success took him by surprise. Forge adds that he really only has the next five years of the band planned "but it's impossible for me to [look further ahead]." He also makes a comment about "if you want a really good ending, you start with the ending and then you work your way back." So maybe he's even got an ending for the band in mind as well?

"I know where we're going now and maybe five years ahead. To draw a parallel to cinema or TV or making a series, I believe that the good series are the ones where you… It's kind of like writing a novel — if you want a really good ending, you start with the ending and then you work your way back.

"I did not know, when taking the first nine steps between 2006 and 2009, 2010, when the first record came out, I had no idea that this was gonna be a full-time job. You couldn't have made that up in 2008, that this kind of band might become this big. So Ghost was, in a way, the pilot that got airing, and then all of sudden you've got the first season greenlit, and then that becomes a major smash, and then you're, like, 'Okay.' So then you have to follow that up. And, unfortunately, you see that with a lot of series. And that means you have to try to create it as you go. So, yeah, I can see five years from now, but it's impossible for me to [look further ahead]."

"Rite Here Rite Now is a mostly comprehensive and extremely enjoyable—but slightly pointless—complement to Ghost's first film."
