Turns out nü-metal is more popular than it's been in the past nearly 20 years. According to a Google Trends chart posted by Twitter account crazy ass moments in nu metal history, the oft-maligned genre of nü-metal is currently more searched for than it has been since Google started tracking trends in 2004 (aside from a brief spike in August 2004).
The account also makes the plea to everyone to support smaller nü-metal bands as the scene continues to grow, and lists quite a few. Obviously the account is run by a genuinely big nü-metal fan, and it's always cool to see someone that passionate about a genre.
"I don't want to be grandiose, I can tell I'm reaching an inflection point where goodwill turns to suspicion, but we have a chance to make this moment something that lasts if we support our new bands. Anything (2023); follow them, add their album, listen. We can do this."
We took a deeper look into the Google Trends chart to come up with the top 10 states searching for nü-metal, because y'know – we had to know. In order of popularity, they are:
- West Virginia
- Maine
- New Mexico
- New Hampshire
- Kentucky
- Montana
- Indiana
- Wisconsin
- Iowa
- Ohio
It's worth noting that the first four on that list are searching for nü-metal a lot more than the other six. So what's the deal, West Virginia? Is there something we don't know? Same goes for you other three. The bottom five places searching for nü-metal are Georgia, Florida, New York, Hawaii, and Washington D.C.
To dig a little deeper, worldwide searches for nü-metal are way down since 2004. Though for whatever reason, it's still searched for a pretty insane amount in Chile. I mean almost double the second place country, which is Bolivia. Worldwide, the United States clocks in at No. 20.
