The Dio hologram toured the world in 2017, and again in 2019. The show featured a hologram of the late Ronnie James Dio with recordings from his past shows alongside a real band. The hologram received some pretty mixed reviews over the years, from people finding it entertaining to folks thinking it was downright insulting of his career.
Now according to Dio's wife Wendy Dio in an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock, the hologram might not come back. Whether that means the idea gets retired, or comes back in a new iteration with different technology, has yet to be revealed.
"The hologram is on hold," she said. "I don't know if we're going to do that again or not. We went out, and we tried it — we did it.
"There's still talk about doing the hologram," she continued. "I don't know. I think that there's so much more that's come along developing-wise [as far as technology]. I just think that the fans would prefer to see Ronnie as being really Ronnie instead of a hologram."
For those unaware, this is what hologram looked like. It's… a little creepy.
