SYSTEM OF A DOWN To Announce Some Big Secret In 2023

New music?

System Of A Down is up to something. In an interview with Kyle Meredith, vocalist Serj Tankian reveals the band will announce something he "can't really tell you about" in 2023 after being asked if there's a future for the band. Tankian doesn't elaborate any further, but he doesn't need to either – we're obviously all going to pay close attention to System Of A Down in 2023 now that Tankian made a comment like this.

"As of now, we haven't talked about anything," he said. "We will be making an announcement about something next year that I can't really tell you about. So there is that. But further than that, I can't really say."

Of course the assumption here is that System Of A Down is going to announce new music. A tour or shows from the band wouldn't exactly be bombshell news given they've done live appearances here and there over the past few years.

Tankian, who had historically said no to a new record, seemed to come around on the idea in recent years saying "we'll see what happens" and just kinda shrugging at the whole thing. And to be fair, System Of A Down did release "Protect The Land" and "Genocidal Humanoidz" in 2020. So they are capable of working together.

It's also clear that Tankian had a new System Of A Down record on the brain at one point, as he revealed in 2021 that his single "Elasticity" was actually written for a failed attempt at a new record.

"When I conceived possibly doing another record with the guys from System Of A Down a few years back, I started working on a set of songs that I arranged in rock format for that purpose. As we weren’t able to see eye to eye on the vision going forward with an System Of A Down album, I decided to release these songs under my moniker."

So keep your eyes peeled, kids. Something is coming in 2023… and it could very well just be a tour and all this talk of new music was for nothing.
