Founding Suffocation vocalist, and the only vocalist Suffocation has ever had, Frank Mullen announced his retirement from the band in 2018 after one last tour. Mullen didn't really tour with the band in recent years and his spot live was filled in for by Disgorge vocalist Ricky Myers between 2014 and 2016, as well as 2018, and ex-Pyrexia vocalist Kevin Muller between 2016 and 2018.
Now with Mullen out of the picture both in the studio and live, bassist Derek Boyer says Suffocation will continue on with someone else. Boyer says Suffocation plans on doing more tours and more music, though he doesn't announce who the band's full-time vocalist will be.
"Frank, we knew he's been talking about being done for a while. It's one of those things you're definitely going to get another record out of the band. It's been tough jumping through hoops with 'Who's going to do this?' We have Ricky Myers from California, who's been doing a lot of the stuff for us. He's doing really well right now. You'll be seeing Suffocation coming through your town. That's not going to stop. You'll see another record. We're not going to skip a beat. Frank is awesome. He's going to be missed, but the band is still a driving force."
If I had to guess based on the above statement, my money is on Myers taking the position.
