Steve Vai, the man who created the first commercially-available seven string guitar and accidentally invented nü-metal, is planning on diving even deeper into the world of extended range. Vai tells Guitar.com that he's planning three new albums, one of which is all "the heaviest of stuff I could possibly dream of" on eight string guitar. Which should be interesting given Vai's otherworldly abilities.
"My original plan was to record three trio-based instrumental guitar records that have no overdubs. One record was going to be all clean guitar tones. The second one was going to be my normal dirty tone. The third one was going to be this tuned-down eight-string stuff, like the heaviest of stuff I could possibly dream of. That was one project and I laid it all out, but then other things got in the way."
Thus far we've only heard a song off the all-clean guitar album called "Candle Power."
