Spotify took one small step to make sure fans hear albums the way they're intended to be heard by removing the "Shuffle" option at the top of every album page across its platform. The change came about after pop superstar Adele requested the button be removed after the release of her new album 30.
"This was the only request I had in our ever changing industry!" said Adele on Twitter. "We don't create albums with so much care and thought into our track listing for no reason. Our art tells a story and our stories should be listened to as we intended. Thank you Spotify for listening."
So will this really affect the way people listen? I guess we'll see, especially if you're already either the type that listens to an album all the way through or you're more of a "singles" person. I'm just glad I can finally listen to Bell Witch's Mirror Reaper without having to remember to turn shuffle off.
Oh, and for the record – you can still shuffle albums. The option is available, it's just no longer the default.
