International symphonic deathcore band Slice The Cake broke up in December 2022. The band stated at the time they had parted ways with vocalist Gareth Mason, and would carry on with instrumentalists Jonas Johansson and Jack Magero under a different name. Turns out it's a little deeper than that.
In a new statement, Slice The Cake said that Mason is actually facing serious criminal charges. The band further states that they're severely disappointed with their situation, and can't comment any further due to the legalities of the situation.
"Today, we are faced with the difficult task of addressing a matter of great concern and sadness to us as a former musical collective.
"It has recently come to our attention that Gareth is facing serious criminal charges. While we are unable to provide specific details about these charges, we wish to convey our profound disappointment and our unequivocal condemnation of this matter.
"We would like to apologize for the vague nature of this serious message. We understand that you may have concerns and questions, but due to the sensitive legal nature of the situation, we are currently limited in the amount of information we can lawfully provide.
"We also want to express our deepest gratitude to all of you who have supported us over the years. We understand that this news may be disappointing and troubling, and we want you to know that we are navigating this situation with heavy hearts, just as many of you are.
"Thank you for your understanding and continued support.
"Also, for the sake of clarity, Gareth's family has informed us of Gareth's desire to no longer be identified as 'Gaia'. To maintain clarity and alignment with their legally recognized name, we will, therefore, use 'Gareth' as their designation unless we receive updated information, as recommended by their family."
If you never checked out Slice The Cake, do so below. They really were a great band and this whole thing is a massive disappointment. Slice The Cake's final effort was Odyssey To The West in 2015, which remains criminally underrated.
