Back in August we learned that Superjoint Ritual would be reuniting to play Phil Anselmo's upcoming Housecore Horror Film Festival. Now, via a recent interview posted by Blabbermouth, we've learned the reunion will be a one-off thing only and the band will be performing under the name Superjoint for unspecified legal reasons. As a brief recap of the Superjoint Ritual's history, they released two demos in 1995 and 1997, their debut full length Use Once and Destroy in 2002 and their final full length A Lethal Dose of American Hatred in 2003 before calling it quits in 2004.
Anselmo said the lineup would consist of himself, guitarist Jimmy Bower of Eyehategod fame and original bassist of the group Kevin Bond. No word on who will be drumming for the group during the shows or if Hank Williams III will be showing up in any capacity, as he was a part of the group from 2002 to 2004 as the bassist.
"It is a one-off, a hundred percent, as of right now, man, It's something that we get asked about quite a bit, but, really, for us, if you look at the guys that are in the band, original members, it's really me and Jimmy [Bower, guitar], and, of course, we've got Kevin Bond coming in on guitar and whatnot. But, really, if you look at just Jimmy and me alone, we're gonna be crazy busy coming up in 2015 as well, and Jimmy with Eyehategod and whatever obligations Down decides to take on. But I think the main focus of next year would be, maybe around summer time, is getting [to work on] that third [Down] EP. And other than that, man, I wanna write another solo record and produce some bands. So, [there will be] not as much touring for me next year."
News of no coming Superjoint Ritual material sucks, at least we'll be getting more Down next year!
