Paul 'Hammy' Halmshaw, founder of Peaceville Records has revealed that he is suffering from a terminal illness and has started a crowdfunding campaign to help retrofit his home with a disabled access ground-level bathroom and bedroom to improve his quality of life.

Peaceville began its history in the early 1980s, when Halmshaw was playing in his own punk band, Instigators, and decided to release his records through his own label. Officially, the label began operations in 1987 and has has given us seminal metal records from: Katatonia, Autopsy, Bloodbath, Behemoth and Anathema, among many more.

In a campaign on JustGiving, Halmshaw offers: “After a life in music I became seriously ill in lockdown. I found out I had hereditary dilated cardiomyopathy which is terminal." Dilated cardiomyopathy is a hereditary, terminal condition in which the heart muscle becomes weakened and enlarged. “As a result, the heart cannot pump enough blood to the rest of the body,” according to MedlinePlug.gov.

The campaign elaborates: “To enable Hammy to continue living at his long time home he needs a ground floor bathroom and bedroom building ASAP… Would you be kind enough to donate some spare change to enable this?”
