OF MICE AND MEN Frontman: "PANTERA Was My Dad's Music"

Austin Carlile prefers Linkin Park

Austin Carlile prefers Linkin Park

Of Mice And Men vocalist Austin Carlile has more than likely struck up the Internet hate machine by making a comment that will no doubt be taken out of context. I'll let you check out his quote drawing a comparison between Linkin Park and Pantera in terms of being equally angry music below so you can unbiasedly form your own opinion:

"I bought Hybrid Theory when I was a sophomore in high school. It was the angriest thing I'd ever heard at the time, other than Pantera — but Pantera was my dad's music, and this was the first record I really got into that I didn't learn about through him. Linkin Park has been my band for such a long time."

I can hear hordes of Internet metal nerds tearing out their hair right now in a blind rage, screaming something about Pantera being way more super metaler and not that "emo wimp music" suckfest crap like Linkin Park. Something unintelligible like that, right?

I get where Carlile is coming from here though- he's saying that Linkin Park and Pantera are both equally pissed off and that Linkin Park is one he identifies with more because it was more along his generational lines rather than Pantera. Not that the message is lost on him or anything I'm sure, just that Linkin Park was "in the now" with Carlile (who was born in 1987).

So what's your take on this statement? Is it a generational thing or is Carlile a heathen?

"Controversies aside, From Zero is a mostly strong (if unsurprising) rebirth for Linkin Park."
