Obituary have been pretty quiet since their 2009 record Darkest Day, but after building their own studio and quietly writing for four years, they need your help!
Obituary's Kickstarter went up on August 2 with the goal of $10,000 to record, mix, and master their new album- a totally fair amount to ask for considering anything else raised about that goes toward touring and other cool stuff. As I'm writing this on August 3, around 1 p.m., the band have already raised $11,486! There's still 43 days left for the campaign too, so plenty of time to X-tuple that amount. The band had to say this about the funding:
This is first and foremost about making the new album. It's been 4 years since our last one, and there is still a lot of metal in our veins. We have already built a full studio with all of the necessary equipment to record …and it was the support of our fans at shows, merch booths and PPV events that made the studio possible.
$10,000 is the absolute minimum that we need to pay our production team. These guys are Incredibly talented, and they are ready to record, mix, master and produce the new Obituary album.
The brief teasers the band give in the video sound pretty good too, but it's just guitar and drums so judging can be a little difficult at this point. Though it does make me a little excited that it sounds like classic death metal with the fuzzy guitar tone and slightly sludgy beat… so we'll see!
