New SYSTEM OF A DOWN Songs Have Nothing To Do With the Band's Career

It's about "the injustice and the humanitarian catastrophe being committed by Azerbaijan and Turkey."

If there's one thing the new System of a Down songs don't mean, it's that more new System of a Down is coming. While the two new songs have raised over $600,000 for the ArmeniaFund, guitarist and vocalist Daron Malakian has made it clear that the band isn't interested in doing anything more.

Vocalist Serj Tankian echoed those same sentiments in a recent interview with NBC, commenting that the new music has nothing to do with the band's career.

"Yeah, it doesn't have anything to do with the group," said Tankian. "We decided to do this to gain attention so we can do interviews about the injustice and the humanitarian catastrophe being committed by Azerbaijan and Turkey against the Armenians of Artsakh, and to also raise much needed humanitarian funds.

"So it's not about our musical career, it's not about the band, it's not about us, it's something completely outside of it."

Tankian later added in the same interview that the band has been able to raise closer to probably $700,000 or $800,000 at this point.

"I don't have the current figures today, but I want to say seven-to-eight hundred thousand within a week, maybe 10 days.

"And we're gonna do a few fundraising events and auctions as well in the coming weeks to a month to try to get a lot more raised."
