Mike Portnoy has been trying more and more to stretch his metal wings as of late, most notably with some mystery project that more than likely features Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick and Megadeth bassist Dave Ellefson. Like, we're pretty damn sure that's exactly who it is.
So in a recent interview he mentioned that technically it's not his project, or anyone's project really, and that it'll feature "friends and special guests."
“There’s this misconception that it’s my metal project, which it’s not. I’m working in equal collaboration with another bass player and another guitar player. It’s our project … It’s a great metal album that the three of us have written and recorded together, and we’re going to have various friends and special guests joining us."
If it ends up actually being with Skolnik and Ellefson, "friends and special guests" could literally be anyone. Think of who the hell those three know combined! No matter what, we're still super interested in what these (potential) three have to offer as a trio.
