There's a fairly common perception that the younger generations tend to lean toward piracy and other illegitimate means of obtain their favorite artist's music. Though according to a recent study from the Cowen Group, that isn't the case.

The group had a population of roughly 2,500 participants within the United States who said whether or not they'd paid for music within the last 30 days. Surprisingly, 46% of the population who said they had paid for music were between the ages of 18 and 24. Trailing behind the group was participants aged 45 to 54, who made up 26% of the whole, and participants 65 years or older, who made up 12% of the whole.
