MAX CAVALERA On A Possible Reunion With SEPULTURA: "Fine, As Long As We Do It The Right Way"

So you're saying there's a chance…

Max Cavalera and Sepultura parted ways in 1996. Cavalera was replaced by Derrick Green in 1998, with both parties enjoying success in the rock and metal world for years to come. Then in December 2023, Sepultura announced they'd embark on a world tour and promptly end the band… which of course has everyone wondering if Max Cavalera and Sepultura could possibly get back together, even for a show.

In an interview with Rock Hard Greece, Cavalera said he's open to it but hasn't been approached. Cavalera also touched on some comments made by Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser in 2023 – namely his answer about if there'd ever be any semblance of a reunion: "No, why would we do that? To ruin the party?"

"I have not [been approached]. In fact, I think I saw one thing Andreas, of course said, like, 'Why are we gonna ask them? They're gonna spoil the party,' which is very typical of Andreas to say that," said Cavalera.

"I don't know. I think I'm gonna let things happen the way they're gonna happen. I'm not gonna force anything, and if there comes a time where we feel that we should make a reunion — okay, fine, as long as we do it the right way. Just like with these re-recordings [of early Sepultura albums]. I think we made them the right way — honest, proper, from the heart."

He continued: "So right now I'm not thinking about that [a reunion]. I know they announced the end of the band. I don't understand this idea. I don't know if they were forced to do it, or if it's a mutual decision of just stop playing 'cause you don't wanna do it anymore. I don't know. I myself cannot live without music. I need to play live. It's like the air I breathe.

So who knows. Maybe when Sepultura ends, it'll just be this specific iteration and the Cavalera brothers could form a new version?
