MATT PIKE On SLEEP: "There's Some Surprises Coming Up"

"I'm on good ground with those dudes and we're talking about some cool sh*t."

Sleep hasn't played a show since 2022, and hasn't released a new record since their 2018 comeback The Sciences. Either one or both of those things may change very soon. According to guitarist Matt Pike in an interview with Steelworks, Sleep has been working on something, but he's not at liberty to say what it is.

"Well, we haven't played live in a while and we took a little hiatus," said Pike as transcribed by Metal Injection. "Right now we're just playing D&D online really, and there's some surprises coming up but I can't elaborate or share on how that's going to turn out.

"So you know, we're talking and and working on stuff again, but it's not come to fruition. It's nothing that I can announce. You know us, we'll drop a record in the middle of the night and no one will know it's coming. So it's… I don't really give away those secrets because that band so odd. I don't know what's gonna happen myself."

Pike added: "I'm on good ground with those dudes and we're talking about some cool shit. I'll leave it at."

It's worth remembering two things at this point – Sleep surprise released their album The Sciences on April 20, 2018 with zero warning. April 20 is also coming up in roughly one month, so who knows. Maybe we're getting a new record ("we'll drop a record in the middle of the night and no one will know it's coming," said Pike) or maybe we're getting some special April 20 shows.

Whatever happens, we're stoked. We'll also take that new Om record while we're getting Al Cisneros music.
