Mathcore Merchants MOTHMAN Serve Up Janky, Grinding Hardcore On "Showed Up Late"

The mathcore/grind/hardcore-punks Mothman hail out of Austin, Tx and have for some time. They have also claimed one of the best cryptid names for their own. And good on them aiming to not only expend great and entertaining legends upon our ears, but also abrasive music to compliment it. If anyone was ever wondering if mathcore died, it never did. It just went underground for a few years. Mothman has been releasing madness since at least 2013. Though like sightings of the beloved Mothman (and maybe even the Men in Black that follow), the output has been on the lower end. But a sighting is always welcome, and the three-piece are here to unleash some new screeches with their latest track: “Showed Up Late.”

Short but sweet, “Showed Up Late” is a chaotic slice of mathcore rooted in the aggression of hardcore. However, it quickly shows its grindcore influences once it starts with the blast beats and growls. It even has a bit of thrash influence throw in that makes the track feel like a circle pit. Overall, it comes and goes quick, but it is punk as hell. Preorder here.

Mothman’s upcoming album Cancer Withdrawal will be unleashed June 3rd. It is Mothman’s first release in almost six years. Fans of Ed Gein, Dead In The Dirt, and Under The Pier will probably have this on their year-end lists.
