Producer Edward R. Pressman and filmmaker David Gordon Green are teaming up to produce Adam Bhala Lough's retro slasher film "Splatter Sisters," with MARILYN MANSON and Evan Rachel Wood attached to star. The film is the first in a planned franchise described as a sexploitation-serial-killer-slasher-road-movie set in 1989.
Green, who saw success with Pineapple Express stated, "This is a role Marilyn Manson was born to play, and with Evan Rachel Wood bringing dramatic gravity to the ensemble, I have no doubt this will take the horror genre to a new level."
We all remember watching Manson's twisted music videos on MTV in the late 90's like the stomach churning vision of The Beautiful People or the asexual nightmare which was The Dope Show. There is no doubt that during Manson's heyday, he could successfully showcase a disturbing performance on the small screen, but 14 years having passed after the release of Antichrist Superstar, could a 41 year old Manson conjure up the same dark forces which put him on the map in the first place?
Will his celebrity status and the fact that we now know that he isn't really a Satan-worshiping hermaphrodite who removed two of his ribs to perform auto-fellatio ruin a viewers chance to suspend disbelief? It would take a truly brilliant performance for me to take him seriously, but thankfully it seems like the idea is just meant to be fun. (See HENRY ROLLINS in Wrong Turn 2.)
So what do you guys think? Would you throw down $10 or more to see a movie starring Marilyn Manson? Or is he too washed up to attract a significant audience? Either way, its got to be better than Paris Hilton in the remake of House of Wax.
