Korn has achieved quite the amount of success over the years. The band has sold over 35 million records worldwide, and 12 of their releases have landed in the Top Ten of the Billboard 200. The band's first seven records, so between 1994 and 2005, are all rated between Platinum and 5x Platinum (so at least 1,000,000 sales) by the Recording Industry of America (RIAA). All this from a band named Korn, and the joke sure as hell isn't lost on vocalist Jonathan Davis.
Davis tells Kerrang! in a recent interview that he thinks the band's name is hilarious. He adds that they only chose to be Korn because they didn't want a serious, "mysterious" name.
“Honestly,” he pauses, slowly breathing in. “I laugh my fucking ass off that my band is named ‘Korn’” he bursts out, practically convulsing with laughter. “That’s the whole reason why we named it that, it was a ‘fuck you’. Your band name doesn’t have to be mysterious; we were being fucking stupid drunk kids. But we made it cool, so fuck it.”
Korn's new album The Nothing predictably cracked the Top Ten of the Billboard 200, and the band was recently announced for Slipknot's Knotfest Japan 2020.
