Indian are a pretty damn heavy band, but we all knew that. What we didn't know is that frontman and guitarist Will Lindsay is pretty angry about Deafheaven being considered "extreme music" and really doesn't care if they know or not. Or at least he starts off with the band and then goes from there. Lindsay spoke to Media Snobs about Indian's new record From All Purity, but the conversation turned to Deafheaven.
"Um … I really don’t care. Honestly, I don’t give a shit about Deafheaven. Deafheaven’s certainly not my idea of something extreme. I mean, I start thinking of things extreme on any spectrum and they’re the last thing I think of."
"I don’t find singing about Satan, wearing makeup and spending an hour dressing up to play shows—like you’re some fucking trust-fund kid from Scandanavia, richest part of the world—interesting. You know what? Fuck you. Your idea of extreme means nothing to me."
But he doesn't care if you're a fan.
"Yeah—I mean I don’t care if you like that band. And I have no interest in telling that band what they should or shouldn’t do. But its not my idea of extremity either…"
So yeah, don't call yourself extreme if you're not extreme or something like that. I guess if you're rich too you're not extreme, or if you do anything interesting with a stale genre or put on make up. Literally anything you do will never make you extreme, especially you Deafheaven. You non-extreme bastards. Hell, I'm no longer extreme for loving Sunbather.
I feel like Lindsay and Behemoth's Nergal would get along.
