The Full of Hell/Merzbow collaboration project is upon us. A few weeks ago Profound Lore Records debuted “The Gordian Knot,” a song that almost gave me a heart attack. Yesterday, they debuted “Blue Litmus.” A screeching, fuming, grinding ear canal assault that comes at you with bits of twisted metal. It comes at you like a banshee in the sullen night, starting with some Merzbow noise, and goes for full cranial damage following. Full of Hell absolutely lose it. Between the call and response shrieks and bellows, to the blasting drums/bass and the bleeding guitar lead, the band sounds like they're in kill mode. Arguably one of Full of Hell's best and grindiest songs yet.
Those familiar with Full of Hell's previous itinerary know they've had a huge boner for Merzbow for a long time. But they've also remained about one-third to one-fourth noise on other albums/EPs. The fact that they get to work with someone they admire is excellent, especially considering they're turning out their best material yet.
With what the Full of Hell/Merzbow collaboration has pushed out so far, it's going to a strong contender for album of the year, at least with me it is. But hey, check it out for yourself.
And it's complete with a music video.
