EP Premiere: PORTRAYAL OF GUILT And SLOW FIRE PISTOL Serve Up Emotive And Chaotic Hardcore

Austin, TX's Portrayal of Guilt should need little introduction to anyone into hardcore or screamo. The band has carved their name into the scene with their noisy take on the genres and hasn't seemed to take a break from touring since their inception in 2017. And in three years they've almost managed to split the genre at the seams.

Slow Fire Pistol hail out of Atlanta, GA and have been active since 2016 and feature ex-members of Foundation. A listen to their previous releases might invoke thoughts of Shook Ones, La Dispute, Moss Icon or Touché Amoré. A more post hardcore/80s-era emo approach that is beautifully melodic but still punk as hell.

Portrayal of Guilt offer up "The End of Man Will Bring Peace To This Earth." Hard to argue with the sentiments of that title. The three minute track is a flurry of ruthless hardcore/screamo. The track into slams in and out until finally taking hold and going in for the kill. A bit in the band break things down, their fuzzy bass sound ensuring the band lose none of their heaviness in the transition. It's a slow, noisy decent into the end.

Slow Fire Pistol throw in with "Heart of Discernment," a track that continues to build on the band's post hardcore leanings. The intensity is there to start as the track starts out purely hardcore. However, things shift and take a turn for the slower. That track becomes lamentful and melancholy as it presses forward. Things build and build into some fierce punk intensity until the track fades into feedback.

Run For Cover Records will be handling the release of this split. Stream the tracks and order here.
