Mötley Crüe vocalist Vince Neil hasn't exactly been making headlines for the best reasons in the last year or so. Of course we all hope Neil sounds phenomenal every time he hits the stage, but that hasn't quite been happening lately (though he did look better at his last show). This is specially crucial now given Mötley Crüe has a stadium tour kicking off with Def Leppard, Poison, and Joan Jett And The Blackhearts next month.
Now in an interview with KSHE 95, Def Leppard guitarist Phil Collen said he's not really concerned that Neil will sound off or be out of shape for the upcoming tour. Collen said he talks to bassist Nikki Sixx all the time and that Neil will be "part of our team." He adds "The way I look at this whole thing… We wanna take this tour to the rest of the world — in Europe, Australia, Japan, all over the place, South America — so it's really important that everyone is part of the team. And we're inspired. Me and [vocalist Joe Elliott] — actually, all the guys — we're on the phone, and we start rehearsing in about a week."
Collen goes on to say that the tour is very much "all about the show," that "you live and die by the show, and you wanna make that great," and that he thinks "Mötley Crüe are gonna be part of that team, as are Poison and Joan Jett. We all stand as one." He then ends the entire thought by saying "I can't wait till we get out there. And hopefully Vince will be working out. We've got a trainer coming out. Yeah, it's gonna be really cool."
So sure – maybe Collen isn't concerned about Neil. But the way this is worded seems like maybe there's a little underlying concern? Which is of course fair, since any touring artist wants their bill to make fans happy and the whole thing be successful. And really, we all do want to see Neil succeed. Dude could certainly sing. So we'll see happens.
