Dave Lombardo is a man who knows a thing or two about drumming, or so I've been told by a fan or two. So is it really surprising that he encourages drummers to step outside the metal box when they're crafting their own style and to incorporate pretty much everything they love into what they do? He told Seton Hall University's WSOU in an interview (below) all about how drummers should be making up their own approach to the instrument.
"Practice what you're taught in school, if you're taking lessons, but don't be afraid to venture out and search for new music and music that is inspiring, and try to develop your own style. Take from different genres and apply them to what you like. Take your favorite genres and then create your own style. 'Cause then you have… It's almost like chemical properties of a certain substance. It's kind of the same idea: you take these several different elements, and they pass through one, and you have then a unique sound and style."
Maybe this will come in handy when he totally joins Megadeth (don't hold your breath).
