CHILDREN OF BODOM Might Have To Legally Change Names After Three Members Quit

Guitar and vocalist Alexi Laiho also talks about the split.

Children Of Bodom recently announced that drummer Jaska Raatikainen, bassist Henri Seppälä, and keyboardist Janne Wirman will all quit the band after their December 15 show at the Black Box in Helsinki, Finland. This leaves only guitarists Alexi Laiho and Daniel Freyberg as Children Of Bodom, though possibly under a different name.

According to Soundi (by way of Blabbermouth), Raatikainen, Seppälä and Wirman all filed an application with the National Board of Patents and Registration of Finland on June 28. The application was granted for a five-year period, meaning Laiho and Freyberg need the permission of Raatikainen, Seppälä and Wirman to continue on as Children Of Bodom.

In a separate interview with Helsingin Sanomat, Laiho said there was a lot of internal struggles with the band "and I can honestly admit that those fights were mainly my fault."

"The original decision [to end the band in its current form] came when the other guys said they just couldn't do it anymore. There were family reasons for it. I respect their decision. I myself have a wife and stepdaughter in Australia, and my wife understands my lifestyle. I'm pretty much gone [most of the time], but always I come back and I give them my all. Nothing is more important to me."

So there you have it – 2019 might be the final year for Children Of Bodom.
