Check Out Underground Band CAVE MOTH!

Cave Moth is a side project of a progressive hardcore band called Bear Cavalry. A band I can't find a thing on. And no, I don't think it's the Glosport, UK rock outfit but who the hell knows. According to Cave Moth's Facebook it's a progressive hardcore unit. But both bands do have a guy named Dan in them. Hmm…

Anyway, noise is becoming all the rage these days because it seems like every band is injecting it into their sound. Certain bands like the almighty Agoraphobic Nosebleed or, more recent and famously, Full of Hell have always had it as part of their sound; whether it be an interlude, introduction, enhancer, or a full on song.

Think about it though: it's easy to produce and all it takes is time and patience. And sometimes a some mind-melting dedication; see: The 24 Hour Japanese Torture Comedy Hour. It doesn't generally have a rhythm and it's the kind of genre that can revel in simplicity but still have an underlying complexity that you'd never pick up on if you weren't listening for it.

Regardless, Cave Moth (or Cave Noise if you go by their artwork name) is the kind of one-man-unit, run by a man named Daniel Quinn in Daytona Beach, FL, that makes noise-driven music more interesting. Something more than, well, harsh static (made famous by Merzbow, the undisputed king of noise) or something floating in the background that I fall asleep to (aside from one of my roommates rage-raiding in World of Warcraft).

Cave Moth brings something a little different to the table. Something that is more unsettling. Tracks are brooding and atmospheric, focusing less on a consistent white noise screech. Though the unit deals in often short pieces, there are longer ones. The album An Exploration in Synchronicity focuses largely on short tracks whereas the more recent pieces Split w/Parasyte or Everything is Fucked Forever, There is No God, No One Cares, Art is Over dabble in longer spurts.

Cave Moth is noise with a grindcore attitude. It's abrasive and unforgiving but has personality. Definitely worth a listen if you want something different. I'm kinda surprised Grindcore Karaoke hasn't picked this up yet.
