A few months ago, we posted a report that legendary Rush drummer Neil Peart was suffering from chronic tendonitis, making it very difficult to play drums. A few months have passed and it turns out Peart is throwing in the towel.
In a new interview with Drumhead, Peart makes the revelation:
“Lately Olivia [ Neil’s daughter] has been introducing me to new friends at school as ‘My dad – he’s a retired drummer.’ True to say, funny to hear.
“And it does not pain me to realize that, like all athletes, there comes a time to… take yourself out of the game. I would rather set it aside then face the predicament described in our song ‘Losing It‘ [‘Sadder still to watch it die, than never to have known it’].”
If anybody had a massively killer run, it's Peart. The man inspired many people to pick up drumsticks and surely just as many to put them down.
