Daron Malakian Says "It's Not Likely" We'll Hear A New SYSTEM OF A DOWN Album "Anytime Soon"

Sigh, I guess it won't happen.

Sigh, I guess it won't happen.

All optimism for possible new System of a Down material can be thrown out the window. That's because the two main songwriters both don't see it happening anytime soon.

In December, bassist Shavo Odadjian said "it's just a matter of time" until we would hear new music from SOAD, but then the very next day, Serj Tankian said there was "no further discussion" about new music. To add to that pile-on of depression, a new interview with Daron Malakian finds him expressing the exact same thing.

Speaking to KROQ, Malakian was asked if the lack of new music was due to creative differences, family commitments or both:

“It might be a mix of both. People change; as time goes on taste changes, and people want to take the band into different directions, and you have other members of the band that maybe don’t want to go into those directions.

“So we just haven’t come to an agreement on how we would want to do it if we did make a record. I never say never, but at this point, it’s not likely that it’s going to happen anytime soon.”

Malakian reiterates that he simply repurposed songs he was saving for System for his new solo album, which is pretty evident, especially the most recent single. You can watch the interview below or read more of the transcript over at Ultimate Guitar.
