Frances Bean Cobain and Riley Hawk welcomed their first child Ronin Walker Cobain Hawk and that little guy is already making history because, of the four people who officially become grandparents with his birth, three of them are Courtney Love of Hole fame, Tony Hawk, and the late Kurt Cobain of Nirvana.
Frances shared the announcement of the baby boy over this past weekend on Instagram, even though he was born back on September 17, writing, “Welcome to the world most beautiful son. We love you more than anything.”
Frances Bean is, of course, the daughter of Kurt Cobain and Courtney Love while Riley Hawk is the son of Tony Hawk and his ex-wife Cindy Dunbar. The Instagram post was limited in who could comment, but a parade of celebrity well-wishers offered their congratulations, with Tony Hawk declaring the child “My favorite grandson!” Kim Gordon offered “Huge congratulations!” Darkwave project Cold Cave wrote “Beautiful!!!!!!! Welcome! You two are going to be such great parents.” Dave Grohl’s daughter Harper commented a string of cutesy emojis. And R.E.M. frontman Michael Stipe, who is Frances’ godfather, commented “With all the love and energy in the whole world.”
Kurt Cobain famously died of an alleged suicide in 1994 when Frances Bean was under two years old, so sadly the rock star will never meet his grandson. Still, it’s heartwarming to know that his legacy will continue on with yet another generation. Congratulations to happy parents Frances and Riley and to all the grandparents.
