Babymetal has announced Momometal as their new third member, rounding the band out as a trio for the first time since the departure of Yuimetal in 2018. Babymetal unveiled Momometal as a new member of the band on April 1 during a massive show titled BABYMETAL BEGINS – THE OTHER ONE – at the Pia Arena MM in Yokohama, Japan. Which I guess now the whole "the other one" album and show title makes a little more sense, right?
Momometal, real name Momoko Okazaki, has been a backup dancer for the group since 2019 and was a part of the Japanese idol girl group Sakura Gakuin. Okazaki was also briefly a contestant on the South Korean reality show Girls Planet 999, but was booted off during the first elimination round.
The lead up to revealing Momometal as a member of the band began back in January, when Babymetal started adding coffins to the end of their live show. During the January 28 show, Babymetal ended with both Su-metal and Moametal walking toward two coffins at the back of the stage. Then on January 29, a third coffin appeared with a third currently-unidentified member walking toward it.
