War Gods of The Deep impressed us last year with their whiskey-soaked 70's hard rock worship, and now they're back with a new EP, Robots, Rockets & Rampage, and it seems like they've traded their bottles of whiskey for space suits, as Robots, Rockets & Rampage has huge atmosphere and heavy prog influence.
These songs sound huge. They would fit right in blasting in a spaceship as the apocalypse approaches Earth. All three tracks over some meaty riffs and big drums. Oh, and the production is crystal clear. War Gods of the Deep are the real deal. For some reaason, seeing the album art work and listening to the songs, I was reminded of the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. I guess I shouldn't be too surprised because the band are big comic book nerds:
We really like Kiss, Queen, Van Halen, Metallica, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Boston, the Eagles, Prince, Def Leppard & Journey – a lot – almost to an "unhealthy" level. As a result, those artistic influences tend to manifest themselves in our music. [..] In addition to that, we also adore bronze age Marvel comics, we love 70's & early 80's pulp, horror & sci fi magazines. We are also infatuated with almost any and every horror or sci fi movie ever to be released on VHS or Beta cassette. Oh, and we are also severely obsessed with the '77-'85 Star Wars franchise.
The EP is fun and quick, and worth a few spins. You can stream Robots, Rockets and Rampage on the band's official site or below:
