“In The Air Tonight” by Phil Collins is one of those songs that if you’re going to cover it, you pretty much need to make it different than the original. Which is exactly what Marissa Nadler and Stephen Brodsky (Cave In, Mutoid Man) did.
The duo didn’t lean into the whole “hey, here’s the drum fill! You love that part!” thing, and instead made it a brooding, plodding doom song that absolutely fucking rips. Oh, and there’s a great cover of “More Than Words” by Extreme on here too.
Nadler & Brodsky released their collaborative debut album Droneflower earlier this year. That’s also worth checking out. These two are phenomenally good together.
