It's no secret that Metallica's Kirk Hammett is a hardcore horror movie buff—from his monster-mashup guitars to his countless other collectables, it's hard to touch Kirk when it comes to being a suspense aficionado. And since Metallica won't be finishing up their next LP any time soon, Hammett has been going all in on his horror obsession.
Coming on the heels of his Portals EP released earlier this year, Hammett has now released some more new music in the form of a score to a multi-part online story entitled I Have To Get Rid of This Guitar I Found that is available now on Reddit.
It's not 100 percent clear if Hammett is actually the author of the story, so we'll have to keep our eyes peeled for more entries to the series there's any clues into the mystery author's identity. One thing is for certain, whoever wrote the story, they're a close friend of Hammett's, so anything is possible.
The story can be read here, and while you do, you can play Hammett's score alongside from his personal TikTok profile, or right here below!
In an interview this month Goldmine, Hammett touched on Metallica's lengthy writing and recording process. "You know, it's not getting any quicker," Hammett said. "It's just like, we have a way of working. We have a process that unfortunately takes a long time. It's just the way we work, the way it is, the way it works as a band. And I've grown to accept that.
"You know, putting out Portals is great for me because it kind of frees me up from that schedule. I can come up with a few tracks, record them and put them out, and I can do it on a completely different time schedule from the band. And that's great because it doesn't seem to get in the way of the band's schedule because, like I say, we move at our own pace."
